Kemptown is in many ways an iconic ward for the city. It houses the world's oldest operating electric railway, one of the most famous piers in the world, is the end point for the famous London to Brighton Vintage Car Rally, and has featured in some of the most well known films ever made. It is the home of Madeira Terrace, Sussex Square & Lewes Crescent, Royal Crescent, and Madeira Drive. Films made there include Brighton Rock, based on the novel by Graham Greene, and Quadrophenia about the Mods & Rockers. It is also the venue for the finishing point in many of the parades and races that take place in the city or have the city as their finishing point. Famous actors to have lived in Kemptown include Sir Laurence Olivier, Joan Plowright, and Dora Bryan.
The Kemptown Ward Team have set up two petitions for you to sign. They are calling on the Council to improve facilities at Blackrock and support local businesses in St George's Road with better parking.
Brighton and Hove Liberal Democrats know only too well the importance of ensuring our visitors, residents and businesses have the most basic of needs met, even more so in developing areas such as Black Rock, where new businesses are sprouting up with no additional facilities to support an increase in visitors to the area.
Brighton and Hove Liberal Democrats call upon Brighton and Hove City Council to urgently ensure that there are toilet facilities in the Black Rock area that are accessible for all.

Kemptown Liberal Democrats are saddened to see that the St George's Road area of Kemptown is again being let down by this Labour administration.
Brighton and Hove Liberal Democrats call upon Brighton and Hove City Council to look at the parking restrictions along St George's Road to see how we can support local businesses in implementing a 2 hour free parking option for those visiting the cafes, salons, independent businesses and shops.

Voters were impressed and many said they were encouraged with the Lib Dems and the amount of work they had done for the ward over the last few years. Many recognised Robert and his name was well known to them for his work and support in the ward.
Brighton and Hove Liberal Democrats chose Robert to be their candidate to represent Kemptown Ward in the last local by-election.
Since standing in the May 2023 and 2024 local elections, Robert has been working hard to help residents and businesses all over Kemptown. Like many residents, Robert feels let down and ignored by the current councillors elected to represent Kemptown and has taken on board many issues on behalf of residents.
Robert says, “Under this Labour administration the people I speak to every day say things have only got worse. Elected representatives are missing in action, emails and requests for support are ignored, surgeries are inaccessible, and it is left to residents to sort things out themselves due to the lack of representation. I have been helping them with issues such as potholes, street and kerb parking and bin collections.”
“In addition, some of the council decisions seem out of touch with the reality of the issues faced by the people of Kemptown, and there is no-one to speak out for Kemptown Ward against these decisions. Our residents deserve better.”
If any residents or businesses require assistance from Robert, please contact him via email:kemptown@liberalbrighton.org.
